Lidded Boxes
by Peter Gedrys
Style: Custom Design
Type: Boxes – Lidded
Materials: Plywood, Glaze
Dimensions:
Gedrys’ lidded boxes are actually made from plywood. The boxes are finished with graining techniques that give them the appearance of mahogany and tiger maple.
Where can I get some more information on constructing the boxes and how you finish them.

Bob,
First off the boxes were actually clear pine and someone in the Fine WoodWorking shop made them. They were pretty simple but very nicely done.
The article was a Finish Line in # 157. It was three pages and details both boxes.
We actually did a third one that didn't make the article. It was a faux satin wood box.
I have that one and the mahogany one. The escutcheon and key hole on the mahogany box were faux painted also. The tiger maple box went to the person who made them.
The funny thing about that finish line; it was the second least popular of all time (at the time) The editor I work with still likes to remind me of that.
It seems the requests for more complicated articles does not relay to finishing. I'll tell you from experience though, it is a good skill to know if and when you go through a veneer or have a board that is so out of whack with the rest of a project that it is the only way to save it.
It's also a lot of fun when someone DOESN'T notice it. That's the goal.
Peter
Thanks, Peter
