Ok, just what is plum pudding mahogany anyway? Is it a grain pattern like tiger maple is or it is a particular color ?

Cherry John,
More like bird's eye maple. It has blemishes in it that resemble the raisins in a plum pudding.
Regards,
Ray
Thanks.................now I know
The plum pudding mahogany that I have shows long streaks of color trailing away from a dark spot in the wood. It's appearance is similar to when you are mixing the pudding and the color is strongest around the plum then trailing off until the mixture if fully stirred.
I also have some raisin maple. In this wood the blemishes are radial bark inclusions similar in size and color to a raisin. The wood is highly figured and the bark undulated into these raisin areas. It was like the bark was keyed into the tree.
I also have a board of walnut that has large pepper size specks that are actually tiny knots. Should this be called pepper walnut?
Nature sure can do some beautiful work!!
