Hey guys, I have been doing woodworking for 22 years now. My wife and I just had twin boys. 6 months (Matthew and Luke). I found great pride in building furniture for there room and now I want to build a small scale sleigh with the works!!! Does anyone know of any ideas or some plans I could get-a-hold of?. I have pony’s or a tractor that could pull them around in the snow. High skill level is ok
Thanks guys, LMC

Hi LMC ,
First off , congratulations !
There are many types of sleighs out there , it really depends on which style you are interested in .
you might try and Google on " klondike sleds " and see what pops up to your liking .
Best of luck to you and yours

Loucarabasi,
The attached pictures display a design for a sled, not a sleigh; however, it is a design that I developed for my children when they were small and now the grandchildren have made use of it as well.
Simple pine frame, with 1/4 hardboard bottom / nose, plywood floor on top of the cross members inside, and the brakes on the sides give some steering and control. The brakes are oak with a bit of steel in them. There are 1 inch oak runners on the bottom to keep it going straight down hill and on hard packed snow. The shape works well in powder snow. There is a 2x4 in the nose that the tow rope hooks to and this provides an anchor for the hardboard. Wax the hard board and runners on the bottom.
These hold up well and we use them for cross country skiing at times with a different harness to pull it. It is very durable.

Moksha, Pretty good feeling when you build something for you kids and watch them have so much fun using it.
The sleds cool !!!
Thanx, Lou

HOLY COW!!! You wife gave birth to 6 month old twin boys?! My hat is definately off to her!
:>)
Just funnin' with ya', Lou.
A BIG congratulations on the boys. Enjoy them while you can because they grow up fast. And, being, from Minnesota, I know that takin' the kids sledding when they're little is one of the biggest joys of both childhood and parenthood.
Now if we could just get some @#$% snow up here! :>(
Post some pics of the sled when it's done.
Congrats! Where's Mark? :-)
You say "sleigh" so I assume you mean sleigh as opposed to sled. When you decide what you are going to do, or when you find other plans for sleds and sleighs, I would appreciate it if you would post them here.
I have 2 older grandsons and 3 younger grandchildren (1 younger and 2 older than Matthew and Luke) and would love to make them some sleds, or possibly a sleigh.
Thanks,

Plane, I found a picture of a christmas display sleigh. Its perfect. I do wood working for a living, so its gonna be awhile before I have it complete, but I will post the pics as soon as I can.

Good Morning,
Congratulations. We don't have kids yet but I have always thought of building a sleigh for them.
Christian Becksvoort has an awsome baby sleigh he calls a "Snow Glider" on his site. He is an expert and author for FWW. Look midway down this page.
