Plans for making dining room chairs
Hi
I need assistance as to how to manufacture dining room chairs. I have finnised the table using Teak – ( nice Finish – red’s, white and brown) and is now stuck as to how to make chairs. I have copy the old chairs, but don’t like the style as it doens’t do the table justice. Looking at some guide lines as we want to cover the seating, with fabric, which match the top.
If there are a plan out there that one can use it will be help full
Thanks

It would probably help if you identified the style of your table and the wood used to construct it. A photo or two would also provide info to other readers who might come up with a suggestion or two.
Thanks for the reply. The wood i am using - Teak. I have taken an old chair - copy it, but my question is - Is it good to mortise all the joints, will this make it alot more sturdy, and the finish. We don't want to have a shiny fish, but more a matt finish.
Japie du Toit,
Mortis and tenon joinery is good and strong, as you said. If you don't want too glossy a finish, rub it down with 0000 steel wool and wax to get the look you want. You can always adjust the gloss level that way. If you use a mat finish or semi-gloss varnish and it's too dull, you're stuck.

Hi Steve
Thanks for the tip. The finish product look good - and yes a lot of elbow gries when into it. Will send you some fotos once i have down loaded it.

Perhaps you could shop around, find a chair similar to what you would like, then modify it to your taste while copying it structurally. You might look at Salvation Army, thrift, or used furniture stores. You could probably even purchase a single chair for a pittance. I built a set that way then suggested it to a fellow in Australia who thought it was a fine idea. He & I both wanted to test the dimensions for comfort also.
