Hi everybody,
I am new to woodworking and I just got my first hand plane. I have it set up perfect according to the paper thin shavings I get, but one problem I am having is, when planing out a bow in your stock, should you plane out the high part first or should you plane the whole board. I have heard the whole board a long time ago, but I want to ensure that I am remembering correctly.
Thanks
Aubster.

Aubster,
Yes, you plane the high parts first....think about it, if you planed the whole board, the whole board would just get thinner and retain the bow. good luck...and welcome
LOL, Thanks for that information. That is what made the most sence to me also. I do not remeber who informed me to do the whole board, but that is a good reason not to remember. :~)
Well, I guess the idea was that if you had a really long plane (like a 24" #8) planing the whole board WOULD take off the high spots.
Even using a power jointer you rough down the high spots first then take full passes.
Enjoy planing- but beware the addiction to them, and the lovely curls they make.....
(13 planes and counting.....)The older I get, the better I was....
