Pin nailer – grex, cadex, nikle or PC
My wife gave me a Porter Cable pin nailer for a birthday gift. I’m grateful for the gift, but I think I really wanted one that shoots pins longer than 1″. If I take it back to get a different one, which one is the best value, the Grex, Cadex or Nickle? OR – do I really need to shoot pins longer than an inch? Can those who have pin nailers offer thoughts on best pinner and usage?

I went for the Cadex and love that tool. It shoots up to 2 in slight headed or headless pins. I work on jobs with many different situations so the 2 in is great where you have sheetrock under your trim. enjoy
Another vote for the Cadex. Nicest air tool I own. Unbelieveable quality and have never had a misfire in over 2 years.

You might also look at the Senco Finishpro 11. Very nice unit that shoots up to 2" 23 ga. pins. I've had no problems with mine. Usually can be had a bit cheaper than the Cadex.
I have 2 Cadex pinners and I can't fault them on any point. Uses for pins longer than 1"? Oh yes...I often pin material that's 3/4" thick which requires a longer pin. I've also attached lots of 3/8" wall panelling using pins until the adhesive takes hold. The 1" pins weren't enough to hold it but 1 3/8" worked fine. You can always shoot shorter pins, but you'll never regret being able to use longer ones.

I guess I am going to have to agree with most of the posts. I have had my Cadex for 3 years and it is flawless. I have not seen the Senco because it was not available when I bought mine. If the prices are all close I'd go for the Cadex.
Here's two thumbs up for the Grex. It does everything I have asked it to do.

I also have the Grex and it's all it's cracked up to be. No misfires and I've used it with all hardwoods, including oak, hickory and Ipe.

Here is another vote for the Grex. I love mine; no misfires, many different length of pins.

I bought the Cadex because it shoots headed pins and non-headed pins, and because of recommendations from this forum. Certainly one of the best tools in my shop!

I purchased the Cadex CPB 23.35 about six months back. I had a project that involved a lot of small moulding. This model shots up to 1 3/8" pins, and slight headed pins. The tool is very well made. I have not found the need for a 2" pin.
