The Montgomery County Woodworkers Guild will have its monthly meeting this Thursday, 1/17, in Philadelphia. All are welcome. Carving the ball of a claw and ball foot will be the demonstration (the claw will take place at a later date). Membership is free. We have members from NJ, DE and Delaware county that range in skill level from beginner through teaching professional. If you’re interested our yahoo group is MCWW. Check us out and bring a friend.

This is our yahoo group homepage. We try to meet monthly, it probably works out to 9-10 times per year. Where are you located?
Matt, I am in Horsham Pa.
Matt,
I plan to be in Montgomery county from Jan 23 thru Feb 9, visiting family. Can't make the meeting you mention, but is there something you'd recommend seeing while I'm in the area?
regards,
David Ring

There are many options. I have spent the most time at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It's easy to get to and has plenty to offer. There is a lot of furniture on display ranging from Chippendale through a Maloof rocker. It should also be easy to convince a family member that doesn't share your interest to go there. Admission is free on Sundays (they suggest you make a donation) and you'll be right in the middle of the city.

People have also spoken highly of George Nakashima's site. Our group is planning a trip up there.

There is more...
would recommend visiting the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop.com.
If you're willing to drive a few miles to Delaware you should visit Winterthur. One of the finest, if not the finest collection of American furniture there is. Their website--

If you drive down on rout3 1 you'll go right by the Brandywine River Museum with its Wyeth collection and won't be too far from Longwood Gardens which is also worth visiting although, in my opinion, better saved until warm weather.

I live in Souderton and would be interested in joining your group. What time and where will you be meeting on Thursday?

The meeting starts at 7 and usually lasts 2-3 hours. We meet at the Philadelphia Furniture Workshop. The website for PFW (with directions) is below. PFW often graciously hosts the meetings, but is unaffiliated with the group. I hope to see you there.
