I’ve read recent discussing concerning the 16-32. Particularly that it is under powered. Are the larger models prone to the same problems as the 16-32. What are the alternatives to sanding larger panels?

To piggyback onto this thread does anyone have experience with the new 22-44 plus from Performax? I am struggling with the panel sanding problem also.
i've been using a 22-44 for about 1.5 years - so maybe that's not a new one. usually keep 150 grit on. the machine does work - but it is very slow and can only take small amounts off each pass. in general i turn the height crank about 10 minutes worth (thinking of a clock and 1 hour being a complete revolution) and even less when doing very hardwoods - rosewood, pernambuco.

I have owned a Performax 16/32 for three years. It's as good as its competition and in my judgement it is useful for hobby and light duty work, but do NOT buy it for production, even light production work. It is WAY WAY WAY underpowered. Did I mention that it is underpowered? Kind of like buying a 6" jointer and sorry you didn't spend the extra bucks fo a real jointer.
I too own a Performax sander and would agree a bigger motor would be nice. With that said, I believe its a good sander for the money. Sure a $2000.00 sander would work better. But for the money it does panels well. I wouldn't do production work but have done a few pieces of furniture a bathroom vanity and have no doubt it will do my kitchen cabs as well. I have also used it on almost every other project since I purchased it. Its more of a process thing. I do other misc. tasks (clean the shop, setup the next panel, etc) when sanding. No you can't take a 1/16 of an inch off a 16inch panel per pass but can with two passes.
Just my $.02

Thanks for the feed back. I think I'll keep saving until I can afford something better. I bought the 6" jointer and then took the loss when I upsized to 8" - not looking to do that again.
Again Thanks,
Jim
