Hi y’all
Bought a used PC 2×21 single speed belt sander on ebay for a song and as noted by the seller it’s a little noisy. Thing runs great but apart from the racket so am in the process of doing some simple rehab on it stating with a new cork and platen assembly that I was able to order. I would however like to remove the grabox pully so I can get the cover off to see what the noise is and decide whether to fix it or not. (Bearing or gearing). The drive wheel has a bolt (reverse threaded) fitted to the wheel that appears to serve no other purpose than to allow for the application of force/grip in order to remove the nylon drive pully that is mounted on a threaded shaft. Anyone out there done this before or know the approved or even non approved method.
Regards,
Earl

How are the brushes? I don't know that I've ever seen one that had worn out gears or bearings but I've seen a bunch that had worn brushes make a hellacious noise. Pop the belt off and see if you still have the noise.

Bingo.. It's definitely the brushes. Now I've got to find some. I tried ACE Tools but they are not carried as they are discontinued and there with no replacement. There has to be an equivalent out there I'm just not sure how to find them. Thanks very much.

If you can get me a measurement of all three dimensions and the length of the spring assy. I have some sources who may be able to help. It's a nice tool, worth a little effort.

There is a place on the web: http://www.repcoinc.com
They have a search engine that lets you input the size of brush, and material.
A well stocked hardware store with those little bin boxes of misc parts should have brushes you can file down. Lee Valley sells an oversized graphite block as a pencil which would work for brushes. If it has the copper tail on it you can wing it. It's not complicated unless you make it so.
Thanks everybody for the tips. I ended up finding brushes at Toolbarn, an on line spare parts house for powertools, PC, Dewalt, B&D, etc.
