I still haven’t broke down and bought a 23 guage pinner yet but a price on one caught my eye this morning. My local hardware store’s weekly flyer came out today and starts tomorrow. I noticed they have a new Paslode 23 guage pinner selling for $99.99 and it says in small letters “sorry, no rainchecks”.
I was set on buying a Grex model because of the positive feedback I read about it. Grex sells for close to $300 up here in Canada and that’s pricey. Their most expensive model sells for something like $340. That’s way too much for me. The Grex shoots 3/8″ pins and bigger.
This Paslode model (# unknown) only shoots 1/2″ – 1-1/2″. That’s actually about all the sizes I’ll ever need. I really don’t need to spend $300 for a gun that shoots 1/8″ of a size smaller pin or even a 1/4″ bigger pin. I’ll be spending @$200 more for just a slightly wider range of pin sizes.
Here’s what I want to know – have any of you ever used Paslode pinners and if so, what is your honest opinion on them. I know of the Paslode name but I haven’t read anything at all about their pinner(s). What kind of nose piece is on it? I mean in terms of size?
Thanks kindly
Paul

Having spent some time in the nail gun repair and sales I would bet that the Paslode pinner is an import. At that price it's pretty much a throw away except for minor repairs. Years ago 23 ga pinners were priced at $600 for the good ones, BEA, etc!!!!! The pins are used in all guns so it's not a loss in ammo. Nail guns are like many things...use them every 9 months or use them daily. At $99 and using it on a regualr basis if you get a few years it's a good deal. Any tool if not used enough will have problems, especially with air guns. O rings dry out and it's difficult to size them from generic sources. One trick is dental floss under a leaking O ring to bring it back to size. Free tip of the day!
Thanks Rick for your help. Yeah $100 is still cheap by today's standards for a pinner. I was choosing between a Grex and a Nikle. They both are expensive and do have good ratings. I had my mind set on the Grex after Fine Homebuilding did a review on 23 guage pinners.
What brand have you used and been the most pleased with?
P.S. I'm not looking for a good price just great quality in a pinner.
Grex and Nikle aren't expensive compared to BEA or Kihlberg. Pinners used to be $500 to $600. These are what was available years ago. Tools are actually cheaper today than they were many years ago due to imports. You have no idea how spoiled todays woodwrkers are.

Still in all I could buy this Paslode pinner for $100 or I can get Grex for $300. I don't want a pinner for work everyday, just one that is reliable and I don't have tu "hunt down" replacement parts.

The Cadex 23 gauge guns are excellent and not too expensive. I haven't checked lately but it used to be around $130 for the model that shoots up to 1 3/8" pins. Worth every penny.

Can you provide some more info or a link to mor info about the Paslode pinner? I can't find any reference to it on their web site. It sounds like a heckuva deal.
Yeah I looked on their website. It was my first & last time on that website. It has to be the worst website for tools.
The stores are up here in Canada. I forgot to mention that the nailer comes with a (few thousand I think) of 1" pins. I also forgot about a gift card in wallet fromt hat store in the amount of $20. How can I pass up this tool now? It'll be $80 for a pinner that shoots 1/2" - 1-1/2" pins. It's cheaper than the $300 I was gonnapay for the Grex.
