Hi all,
I am looking for a source for solid wood chair seats to replace some upholstered seats. Chairs are a mission style oak from some large manufacturer. I am looking for a customer of mine who would like to replace the upholstered seats with solid wood seats without dropping as much money as a new chair. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric

Are you looking for the inexpensive variety, made in Taiwann type, or are you looking for a local chair builder. Your profile doesn't say where you're located. There are dozens of guys (and gals!) who are Knotheads, myself included, who are chairmakers.
I'm pretty backed up right now, and not very cheap, either, but perhaps we can point you in the right direction with some more info. What's the budget per seat? What's the material? etc....

Jeff,
I'm in Wisconsin. I am looking for something more on the cheap side. The customer's chairs are along the Taiwan line type and with 4 children under the age of 6 are looking to keep it on the less expensive side. They are good customers and are willing to pay for quality, but are also practical. I am a cabinetmaker/furniture maker, but haven't done chair seats and would have to charge much more than they are willing to pay for me to learn. So, all that to say that I am probably looking to get the seats in the $50 range since I still have to finish and install them. Material is red oak. Seats are trapezoid shaped about 17" deep, 20" wide at the front rail and 16" wide at the seat back. I just got to thinking that since we can outsource virtually every furniture part out there that I should be able to help this customer out by finding them some seats. Thanks for your response.

I'll tell you what I think you already know. Forget trying to get seats made, and tell them to buy some new cheap chairs at Walmart.
WOW!

Eric,
ping me if you need a few thousands, less than that will be difficult but not impossible.
