A friend wants to sell his old style PC pocket cutter. It is the one that cuts the pocket with a laminate trimmer that swings down from the top. The pilot hole is drilled manually with the use of a guide bushing.
I’ve used the new 552 model that uses a 690 router moter that swings from the bottom and the pilot drill is drilled with a laminate trimmer from the rear. It works great.
Does anyone have any experince with teh old model. Is $100 a decent price if it is in good working order?
Thanks,
Mike

With the new unit priced at $600 or so, The price depends on how much use your going to get out of it. the pocket is the tough bit to do. Drilling the screw hole after is not a hardship. If you will use it a lot then go for it. I picked up a pocket making kit from Sears for $35 and its fine for odd jobs.
Mike,
I think the one you're talking about is the 550 model, and if I remember correctly it sells new for around 200.00. I have it and the 552 model. The 550 works fine if you're not doing production work. It's a little slow for that. I keep mine in the installation trailer for on site work.
Check the price, 'cause we bought ours about ten years ago. But as far as how it works, it does exactly what it was designed to do, and does it well.
