Surveying instrument? Oh, this is going to be fun!(Don't get to go to auctions much anymore).

Well you could need the surveying instrument to check for table levelness, but that band saw also looks like good stuff. There is even an Inca thicknesser lurking there-very nice machine for small work.Philip Marcou
Geeez, if I'd recognized the Inca planer, I'd have gone for sure! Inca's been very, very good to me. ;-)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hello Forestgirl,
Not sure if you are asking what the first one is but if you are it is a belt sander. Did you get your circular saw or is it still in the works?
By the by the band saw looks like one originally used in a butcher shop but I am just guessing.
Hi, roc. Ahhhh, now I see the sanding belt!! Jeez, that a huge machine for such a purpose. Hubby would kill me if I bought it, LOL! Wish my shop was half-again as big.
Yes, I got the Porter-Cable Saw Boss, 6-inch, bought locally. Then ordered a Diablo (Freud) blade and the hose for dust collection. It arrived Wednesday, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, been helping Nick set posts for our new deck.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
>Saw Boss
Back when I was looking the base looked stout and light. I bet you are going to like this saw !>Diablo blade
I have one of these for my fine tooth on my table saw. Home Depot had it. It is a great blade !

PS: he was definitely a woodworker. Shop includes jointer, planer, lathe w/ wood-turning tools, table saw. Pity there are no pictures of the hand-tools, that's what would get me up early to go to Seattle.

If you could swing the price and the space you would find that sander mighty handy.

Hi, Don. I'd love to, but the shop is absolutely crammed full now and my belt/disc combo is outside under a tarp! Given how bad the weather's supposed to be tomorrow, we've decided to stay home. Love that old stuff with the domed shapes and such (like the old Stanley routers that had the R2D2 look).
I've built a pseudo-cabinet to sit on the shelf of the Unisaw, the firsst step toward making footprints pay for themselves in storage. If each tool has storage underneath, the shop won't be quite so crowded. No new tools, more's the pity.
If you're interested in the auction, go here for info:http://www.mbaauction.com Larry is a great auctioneer, you can leave absentee bids if you need to, no worries about him taking them to the max just because you're not "live." He's super-organized, everything is cataloged, and he does 100+ items/hour. The shop/garage items are usually the first section to hit the block.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I did'nt realize you already had a belt disc unit, if the belt on yours is 6x48 then the one at auction would do you no good.
I greatly appreciate the tip on the auction but I am well equipped in the sander department, were I not I would have made a serious run at that belt sander.
If you would, I would really like a heads up on future offerings! I promise not to bid against you!
I understand the space issue, my shop has expanded by 440 sq. ft. since you saw it and I am still short of room. I have expanded as far as possible in this location, from here on efficiency is critical.

Will do, Don. Does your Knots email link work? Is there anything other than woodworking tools you might be interested in? I track Larry's auctions closely, though I only go across the water occasionally.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
If I am not mistaken that is an old model Delta belt sander/disc combination which has been painted green. These are very nice, well made and versatile since it can be used in horizontal or vertical positions. If without any latent defects very attractive.....
FG,
Here is another one not to far away.

Yeah, just what I really need is a 5-head planer with a gang saw. ROFL!!!! I'd love to have the spray booth, though, and maybe the drying racks. They're more my speed. Amazing to see the machinery that makes up a commercial furniture manufacturing plant.
We went to one auction in BC years and years ago. It's a long, long story with a hysterical ending (hysteria as in "Yikes!" and as in "funny"). We bought almost $3,000 in Native American baskets and other items, not realizing what we'd be facing going across the border ("Hides? Hair? Plant material?" -- the baskets, that last one.) Only due to the not-so-kosher good graces of a senior inspector guy did we make it home that night. We made a bee-line to the nearest Stuart Anderson and had big steaks and big drinks to celebrate.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Yes- all sycophantic followers of Oliver and in fact any Old American iron should now snap to attention and execute one smart salute-I refer to the (smallish) Pinhiero planer. Note the diameter of the feed roller and the fact that it is segmented.....That item will be rock solid, and common ailments like snipe unheard of. I could go on ....
The Giulliet comes from a long line of superior woodworking machinery as well-it looks a bit bigger than the one I was familiar with, which was called an "automatic straightening and dimensioning machine", but the workers called it "The Siren" because of the sound the cutters made when at a certain stage when they were coasting down after switch off.Er, no snipe there either....
Repent, all ye worshippers of soft iron!Philip Marcou
