old sears table top planer
I aquired an old sears 4 in table top planer late 40’s or early 1950’s vintage, and can not get it to plane level . I have tried every adjustment that I can and it still will plane one side 3/8 in higher on one side . I have made sure that the blades are in and adjusted , the only thing that I can not get is to level the table. does any one have a suggestion on what I am doing wrong .

A "planer", as in jointer, or a "planer", as in thickness planer. I assume the former.
Please explain a bit more clearly what you mean by "3/8" higher on one side"

Can you give the model number on the machine's ID plate? Should be something like 103.12345. This is on the plate on the machine, not on the motor. A cleare explanation of the problem would help.

the model # is 103. unreadable when I run a board threw and you put a square on the board one side will be approx. 3/8 in higher on the outboard side of the board, not 90 but 100-115 degrees hope this will help
You are running the board on edge and the edge isn't coming out square? Presumably the fence has an adjustment to square it to the table. If the fence is square to the table then the blades are immensely out of line and quite possibly loose, and should be fixed immediately before there's an accident. To help identify the model, is the outfeed table a separate casting bolted onto the full length base casting and therefore there is no way to adjust the height of the outfeed table? The machine is cast iron?John W.

you were on the money with your idea, I went back and readjusted everything the way I had been and when I put the belt on I noticed that the blade on the pully side moved a little . upon further checking I discovered that the bearing was shot allowing the belt to pull the blades down on the pully side , enough that it was eating into the base metal SO now to convince the war dept that I need a new one I want to thank you and everyone that responded to my request
I think JohnWW just saved your life!
