A friend of mine has a few (well alot!) of the old school wooden doors, jambs, hardware and some still have the glass on with wooden strips dividing the panes. On the bottom of the doors has a wooden air flow lattle. A lot of them are 36 inches wide and a few at 30 inches and seems like over 2 inches thick. All those are in oak. He is getting rid of them as he needs the room to store his other stuff. I would be taking two of those 36 inch doors with the windows and air flows to add those doors to my woodshop in the basement. Is there any place or anyone would want those old doors? He says he doesn’t know of anyone or the likes so he’s going to use those doors for firewood…..

I've taken similar wood, from a very old cabinet, cut out the parts with hardware, and ripped the wood where it's joined** to make 8/4 oak stock. It may seem like alot of work, but that older oak is much denser than the new stuff I see (in general). Is it white oak or red? White oak is great for making outdoor furniture.
**those 30-36" expanses are probably made up of edge-joined 2x6"s

are there any architectural salvage places within a reasonable distance? - - I know locally (IN) the business I'd take them to, many locations have a business like this - - won't get a hugh amount of money, but doors with glass make unsatisfactory firewood...
David, would you have the phone number or website? They are pretty good sharp. Now he shows me the windows, big ones! There are clute doors or something like that. More strips of all sorts. He really wants to just get rid of them. So I'm pretty sure he would let anyone take those free for the hauling. All that came from a school out in Iowa. Been sitting in his basement for 17 years. All of them are red oaks. The 36 incher doors with windows seems too big for my woodshop. She doesn't like them opening outwards which takes up that much room. She thought to change the way they open by turning it into sliding ways......

Thanks for that website! I'm going to pass it on to my buddy about it before it is too late.... He doesn't have a computer so I have to do it by foot (walking)
