I have an old Craftsman bandsaw, likely about 40 years old, and need to find a bearing that goes behind the blade to keep it from being pushed back too far. It is a small bearing on a post, most likely just like every other band saw that was ever built, but no one around here can seem to get the right thing that will fit the saw. I have numbers on the bearing, Torrington HR52CFS. I also have the model number on the saw but so far hasn’t done anything for finding parts. Anyone got ideas? I’d hate to give up a really good saw for a bearing.

This *should* be a replaceable item. If this is a normal radial bearing, you just need to get accurate measurements and match them up to a modern part. Most bearings have metric dimensions. If it's a bearing with an integral shaft, you may have to do some minor fabrication.
The best place to ask this question is the forum of Old Woodworking Machines (http://www.owwm.com). Someone there is likely to recognize that bearing number.

Thanks for the lead, at least I got more than we can't help you. It does have an integral shaft, and this one actually looks like it has been replaced from some other application that 'works' as well, since the end of the shaft has threads on it, but they aren't used and go into another bushing that has a steel ball in the bottom for the shaft to rotate on. Anyway, I will try the other link, and see what happens.
Call Sears--------I replaced the bearings on mine within the last year and got the partse through Sears. It will help if you have the manual and parts list for the band saw. If not, you can also get those by giving the the model # of the saw.

Sears no longer services this tool, I called and they have no record of the number which is 103.24280. They say the machine is too old to have repair parts on. I tried to get tires a few years ago, and when I called then that was the only part available, and that would have been about 15 years ago or more. I suspect that the only reason they had those is they fit more than one saw model, and might just happen to fit current stuff. I can't find this bearing on current stuff.
OK---------I found some bearings for my wheels on the Sears band saw at an electric motor repair place. They were better grade bearings and reasonably priced. If you take one of the old bearings with you with legible numbers on it they can cross reference the numbers or compare actual size. :-) I don't know anything else to suggest. You have probably tried all that anyway.

This machine was built by King-Seely. The manual and parts list is at:http://www.owwm.com/files/PDF/Craftsman/103-24280.pdfIt doesn't look like it would be a lot of work to machine up a couple of shafts for a regular radial bearing, but at a regular shop rate it might cost more than the machine is worth. The OWWMers may have better ideas.Pete

Well guys, I have had some good suggestions, and while searching on this and other web sites, I found a good picture of what the original bearing looks like, and my bearing is close, but not what was there to start with. Now I have two possible bearing types and maybe one of them can be crossed to something that will work. The web site for older machines yielded a manual for the machine with part numbers, of course none are any good now, but does give something to work with. I guess now I head out to a bearing supply store with my old one and see what they can come up with that will 'work'. The goal is to get this old thing going again so I don't have to fork out money I don't have now for a machine. :-) Who knows, maybe I can find something soon, and if so I will post on here what I found, someone else surely is looking too.
