Hello Everyone,
I just finished a jewelery box of oak, The finish is Oil based Polly, Rubbed out to hi gloss. On the drawer fronts I use oak with a Rosewood in-lay and solid rosewood handles. I read an article that said before finishing rosewood it has to be wiped down with a Laquer thinner due to the high oil content of the wood.
I did wipe it down and put my finish on it. A couple weeks after I rubbed the finish out I noticed that all the polly on the Rosewood was starting to peel??????? I took all the polly off the handles because It never dried, It remained tacky for 2 weeks.
I have to do something with the inlay on the drawers……..Any ideas would be highly appreciated, Thanks in advance…….
Beautiful Bob

I had the same problem with some kingwood. Ended up stripping it all off then putting a couple coats of dewaxed shellac on first. The poly went over the shellac with no trouble and the shellac seemed to have sealed the oils in the wood that was causing the poly to not cure.
If you build it he will come.
Thank you for your advice.
You should either use a lacquer finish or put on a shellac barrier coat before applying an oil based finish.
Thank you........Bob
