Oiless Compressor Finally Died – Oh Joy!
Just have to share my joy. My obnoxiously noisy oilless compressor finally bit the dust and went out to the curb for the Sand People to pick-up this week. I’ve pretty much hated it since I first plugged it in 8 years or so ago. I found a killer price on a 60 gal, 3 hp (real) Maxus on Amazon which should arrive Tuesday. Besides being much quieter, it makes 10.3 cfm at 90 or 100 psi which means I won’t be running out of air when I’m spraying finish or even using the die grinder to polish my Boyd’s to that near-blue state. Any Dynabrade users out there? Should I put one on my wish list?

John , congratulations. If that only lasted 8 years it may have been a low quality item. Now, if you are paying a "killer price", is there not a possibility of getting "killed" on the new one? Are you sure that this one has redeeming qualities other than a low price?
I am sort of joking..... But for professional use it may be better to consider something better than the usual piston type compressor-which really is a dyneosaur in other parts of the world. Example- a Hydrovane type.
Philip and Elcoholic,
I have an oil-less that is noisey, etc. Whenever I get ready to change it out, what are brands, models in the $500ish or less that I should consider?
I am not a full time woodworker, so it won't run day in and day out.
Also, I realize that $500 is not much compared to what one can pay for these air devices, but I can't justify much more.
Thanks,

It's a Maxus which is Campbell Hausfield's upmarket brand w/ a 5 year warranty. I'd be happy to buy any non-recip, 10= cfm @ 90 psi, 60 gal compressor you can deliver to my door for $585 including free shipping :)John O'Connell - JKO Handcrafted Woodworking

My old compressor ( a POS Husky) was so noisy that when it died, I was sure it happened because one of the crew shot a nail through it. But i was glad to have it out of my misery, and I like my quiet little MAK700 that replaced it.
