Have recieved my brothers favorite wooden rocking chair. It came to me with 5 broken tennons, more Gorilla glue than I’ve ever used, and several well placed screws to somehow keep it together. Unfortunately all of his efforts failed, and since I have done
some wood work, and have some time, he thought I might try an revive this good old rocker.
As i mentioned, several tennons were broken off, and I thought that if I used a hard wood, and carved out a plug, one end to replace the tennon, and the other end to be inserted into the end on the spindles, and epoxy’ed. All tennons have been cleaned off and the responding holes cleaned of old glues, and whatever,
My questions
1. Is this reasonable thought?
2. Would it make sense to put in dowels through the sides of the repaired tennons to strengthen them?
Please see pictures with the plugs, and the spindles, and the chair.
I would appreciate any help, as this is a brothers favorite chair. .

I appreciate your help, Now getting ready to reassemble. I believe I should build it from the rockers up, but how do you know spacing between rockers? and is it consistant front to rear.
Again thanks
