The wood from Walnut trees is called Walnut.
The wood from Pecan trees is called Pecan.
The wood from Apple trees is called Apple.
Why isn’t wood from an Oak tree called Acorn?
Or at least shouldn’t acorns be called oaknuts (a la hickory and beech)?
Sorry, just being silly.

Samson,
OK I'll bite, then why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway? ;-)
still at times we "park" on the parkway.
my understanding is acorn is from
oak-corn,
with corn not meaning maize
but grain/food.

Well,
Then why do we call it saw dust and not wood dust?
