New Unisaw–no laminate table boards??!!
I just took delivery on a new Unisaw with 30″ unifence. Haven’t fired it up yet, but its like night and day vs. my old XL-10! Awesome. The table board though on the right is just finished MDF. All the unisaws I see have a gray laminate table board. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m a little dispappointed……

Back when I got my uni you had to construct your own table board. Is this a problem? When did Delta start including them with their saws? Was it a promotional?
Inquiring minds want to know ;-)

Sounds like they're adopting their "Bloopers" from the trading card industry. Once in awhile, a customer will open up a pack of cards and get one that has just the front or just the back printed, or only one layer of printing with others left off.
Someone was asleep when they packed your box, and didn't notice. Call 'em.

Not quite a comparison of apple to apples, but my 50'' Biesemeyer Uni (10/2002) came with a gray laminate table board..
Raji,
Sounds to me like they've somehow managed to ship you a table for a Jet rather than a Delta.
Don't tell Delta, because, if I'm correct in my assessment, you owe them money.

Jeff,
Hehe,
Actually I was thinking that Delta is probably trying to fool Jet into copying another product. Jet, "We lower quality and copy others before the name goes on". <G> They also build the Randy Newman Jointer! haha
Don
ROAR !!!! Good one Don ....LOL
Don,
Don't think it's really a matter of copying, since both come out of the same plant - unless Delta is having Unisaws made in China now too.
What is a Randy Newman Jointer?
Jeff
Hi Jeff,
Delta is importing a Unisaw that is not called a Unisaw, and as of yet remains nameless. They are not importing to the US though. It is going to Canada which is where I heard about this. In Delta's favor though they are not being sly about the origin of the saw. Being an import is common knowledge there. Other then that though, I'm not sure what you are refering to as the same plant. To the best of my knowledge Jet is made overseas and the Unisaw is manufactured here.
The Randy Newman thing is a bit of an allogory on the song "Short People." Jet's 6 inch jointer comes to just above my knees. They are all short to me, but Jet takes the cake on that one.

Well, I called the place where I bought it and they had never seen a plain MDF Table board. A fluke I guess. They gave me a new Delta table board (32") but it is off-white color, (NOT gray) laminated on all 6 sides, and not drilled or routed like the plain MDF one was. It was easy enough to rout for the bolt heads. I guess the 30" unifence/saw combo is not so popular, so the fence does not include the 3/8-24 bolts to attach the rear table support to the the back of the saw table. (these holes are really meant for outfeed tables I was told). Evidently the 52" unifence doesn't connect to the back of the saw at all. I decided to just for a little extra rigidity. By the way, my table board is not really flat at all, so I may eventually replace it with one of my own. I paid $1299.
The new 30inch Unisaw packages come only with the left cast iron extension and a Mdf right table board. What do you expect? You only paid $1299 for the saw. If ou wanted a better product , you have to spring the additional $500 for the Limited Edition package.
BTW, the table board on my PM66 was far from flat. It only took the manufacturer three tries to get one to me that waas not chipped or warped.
If you want a good one, unfortunately you have to make one yourself.
