Hello All,
I have visited this forum several times and have found a great deal of info on this site, which has been very helpful. Thought is was time to join and introduce myself. I am a beginner woodworker, with a carpentry and electrical background. Up until the last year I have always wanted to get started in woodworking and finally got the opportunity to set up a small shop. Well, I am hooked! The shop is about 70% complete as far as the machinery, a couple of more pieces and I’ll be good to go. I look forward to visiting this forum to tap into the wealth of knowledge and maybe offer some advice myself. Well, while I am here I have a question about replacement knives for jointer’s & planers, basically what brand and where to get them.

Bill,
Don't try to fool yourself into thinking that any shop will ever be 100% complete! If it were, we would not be able to justify our new "toys" to our spouses! :-)
Welcome to the forum!

Hi, and welcome! Seems like we've had 2 or 3 newcomers this holiday season, which is great.
One of the catalogs that carries replacement knives is Ballew Saw and Tools. I'm working on the wrong computer to access my bookmarks, but I think the web address is:
http://www.ballewtools.com
You will find their paper catalog very useful -- they carry a wide range of cutting tools, great selection of saw blades, etc.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Welcome aboard. I agree with rookie that it never is a done deal. I been fooling with this for 31 years and had everything stationary. Within the last 6 months since I came on this forum I have had to add 5 mobile bases and 7 new recepticles on my two 20 amp lines. And of course, a DC system. Watch out, these high tech folks will have you getting things you never knew you needed. In some cases, you never knew existed. ha..ha..
The main thing is to enjoy and have fun. It's addictive.
Have a good evening...

Welcome Bill,
I too am a new member just a month ago and this form is really neat. Enjoy the site and by all means, enjoy your shop. Woodworking is the most rewarding business or hobby that exists.

It's an exciting time, when you're starting a new shop - I'm doing the same. So many good ideas out there (and here!).
You've got an electrical background, eh? Well, hopefully we'll all be able to exchange something here. I've worked in IT/IS/Data Processing most of my life, and just fell into a woodworking job (after a year & 1/2 being unemployed) - I was content. But then, everything took a left turn and I had to quit and stay w/ my aging father. Hopefully I'll get the shop up & running soon, though.
Speaking of planer and jointer knives, have you considered a Tersa head? May be a luxury, but certainly is a cool thing.
