I am looking at new 20″ planers and am narrowing down the list.
The Grizzly G1033 seems to have good reviews here on the Knots forum. It has 3HP and good customer service reputation.
I searched for info on the Jet 208-3 and found little, but it looks to be the same or similar machine, but with 5HP motor.
So final cost on the Jet is about $100 more, is it worth it for the extra 2HP? Any first hand experience with the Jet and/or their customer service?
Oddly the Powermatic 209 also looks to be same machine but had several neg comments in the archives. Built in casters would save on cost of mobile base putting this machine in the near price range also.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Larry S.

I would look at the "Yorkcraft" line by Bridgewood. Last time I looked, they were having a shipping special. Here is the link: http://www.wilkemachinery.com/Yorkcraft.tpl
20" 5hp single phase, $1300.00 with a built in roller stand and they set the machine up and test run it. That's a winner in my book. I have heard raves about thier customer service and I have called them several times and have found them to be very cooperative.
Good Luck!

Wow, thanks John. Again it looks like the same machine as the others, but that is a much better price when you consider the features.
I will be calling them in the morning for more info.
Let me know how it works out. I have talked with Wilke several times, but have yet to order from them. I am sorry that I didn't find out about them prior to equipping my shop. Glad To Of Helped!John
They were closed Friday so will wait till tomorrow to call. In the mean time the Grizzly went up 100 bucks making the Yorkcraft look that much better.
I am just leary of the low price, it looks like the same machine but is it?
I want this to be my last planer, not wanting problems. I don't mind spending a little more for quality but I have no idea if one machine is better than the next. They all look identical in the pictures and for all I know they could be produced on the same assembly line. But then again.....
Anyone have first hand experience with the Yorkcraft?
There were some comments made about "Yorkcraft" a couple of weeks ago. Do a search. Good Luck!John
Don't know if you must have a 20" model, but if not, I just bought the Powermatic 15S, 15" model. It's the one with the spiral cutterhead. Man, this thing is sweet. Spendy at about $1500, but extremely well made with just about every adjustment you'll ever need and it even includes a very beefy and well thought out digital scale accurate to 1/100th of an inch. I'd highly recommend it. I don't think PM's 20" model has the spiral cutterhead.
