I understand Jet did recently come out with a dust collecto (CK1100) which uses a canister with large filtering capacity to 2 micron.
It has a 1and 1/2 hp motor and costs approx 450 dollars. Amazon ‘s reviews are very positive but I prefer to rely on my friends in the forum. I remember reading that Jet has also a 2 hp version for 100 dollars more.
If any reader has any experience with this DC I would appreciate hearing about it.

You might want to drop bowman a line. He got one a little while back:

and another in January:

I just received mine yesterday. I'll let you know how it works in a few days. I'm not the best judge as its replacing my shop vac. I bought it local from Rockler and it was back ordered a month.

I've been waiting for a 1200 (220V) from a local dealer since January 7.

Jamie: I followed your lead and found those two threads very informative. Thank you
How do you remember so many threads, discussions, web sites etc.? As I mentioned before you are a very valuable resource for this forum.

Hi John, in this particular instance the memory is strengthened by envy! Just kidding. I'm "holding out" until I can afford to buy the new Jet collector, and I've paid close attention to posts from people who've purchased them. Have gotten pretty good with that search engine too <g>.
NOTE: I was at the local Jet dealer's place yesterday and asked him about the availability of the new DC. He said that they've never received more than 3 in any given shipment, regardless of their order. What this tells me is that the demand is far ahead of the supply from the factory, so it's being "allocated" to the dealers. Looks like they made a good one!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi FG, Definitely agree w/ John! I'm always sure to check out a thread if your a contributor.
Read your profile...I have a tshirt from the first Earth Day! Couldn't possibly get into it..but I still have it! Brian
Will the canister filter have to be occasionally replaced? If so, how often and how much will replacements cost??

I was told it should last at least five years under normal usage.
Really! Wonder how they achieve that?
My shop vac canister filter has to be changed each time I empty it.

It's a pretty heavy duty pleated filter, and you can keep it clean by turning the built-in "flapper" to remove the fine dust that collects on it. You can see it drop into the bag when you turn it. Unless the pleats started to wear out from the cleaning action I don't know why you'd need to replace it.
In addition to the flapper action, I think I'd occasionally go over it with a compressed air gun to drive the really fine stuff out.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
"My shop vac canister filter has to be changed each time I empty it." -- Sumthin' wrong here. I have an ancient Craftsman 16-gal vac with a HEPA filter. As long as I don't get it wet and let it mold, it will last a very, very long time.
Have not tried the pantyhose cover idea yet, but when I empty the vac and clean off the filter, the first thing I vacuum up after that is some jointer or planer shavings, rather than fine sawdust. It creates a little barrier in the pleats that lets through air, but not so much of the sawdust getting stuck.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
John,
I bought the 1100 unit back in December. So far I am very pleased with it. This was my first DC so I don't have any direct comparisons for you. However, I can tell you that it does a good job for me, moves a lot of air, and is really easy to work with. I wasn't looking forward to fussing with cloth bags on other collectors. The cannister filter is great. You just spin the cleaner a couple of times and you can see the fine dust falling into the collection bag. I'm very happy with it.
