Howdy,
I’m Warren from Escondido, CA. I’ve had several small shops and worked in many others. Mostly I constructed custom doors and windows-anything not square was my speciality. I’m finding myself with room once again and making a small shop that will be hand tool oriented with lots of of portable power tools. I’ll have space for one large tool-probably be a table saw when I find the right price on the right saw. My first project is to finish a jewelers bench I began about 5 years ago. It’s all done but the drawers. I made it knowing I wouldn’t be able to finish at the time and a small custom cabinet should slide right in. I made the bench out of a 12 foot by 2 foot by 8/4 chunk of wormy Honduran mahogany that I got for $100 back then. Most of the hols are near invisible so it was well worth it, my only regret I didn’t save one large peice and gave that away. To mark my return to woodworking I just ordered a Lie Neilsen Low Angle Block plane that I missed at a 1/2 price sale ( can you beleive I set the one they had on sale down at the sale and of course it was picked up by some one more awake than I!!!).
Enough about me- I do have a question. I just set a Record 52 1/2 E woodworking vise on my bench and the jaws aren’t lining up parralell-about 1/8 inch off over the 18 inches of block face I have put on it. The block is square and the vise squared up on the top as well as the stationary face. It snugs up and fits ok but looks sloppy. Anyone ever have troublw with these vises? I’m starting to think the vise is out of alignment some how.
Anyway……Glad to be here I hope I can contribute!
Regards,

Warren, first off Welcome.. .... As for your problem with your Record Vise, this is not the first time I've heard of this problem but it seems hard to believe that a phone call to the rep could not help your resolve it. Something that far out of whack should not be selling as well as it does and that leads me to think that the installation went wrong somewhere. Call the rep and see if they can help you. Or, maybe someone here has had the same problem and can help. Personally, I have installed two of them and have had none of the problems you describe. Trust me, I say the later not in disbelief of your dilema.
