I guess it is. Not the easiest site I have ever been on. Not sure what I think of it yet.
Scott
I'm going to rate all of Sgain's posts with zero stars!
I wish the <<Previous Discussion and Next Dixcussion>> buttons were on the top of the page instead of the bottom.
Mike Taylor is that you? You are showing signs of split personality if you are now Planewood.
Will
Thanks, Plano. I'll remember that, and rate yours the same, he, he. Slainte, RJ.
Rate posts? I've felt more in control of things when I was too drunk to stand up. Where's "ratings"? Where's personal preferences? I know it was part of a thread I was reading but this software decided I didn't need to see it again. I'm afraid this software wasn't designed for anyone who might have been bent over their bench today looking at fine work through a jeweler's hood.
At least I've found the spell check--let's see what interesting visual head spin it creates. Well the blank screen it created was a nice change. I think I'll go poke around one of the other web locations and see if I can recover from all the fun here.
If anyone happens to reply to this, do me a favor and e-mail it too me.
You'll get used to it Larry. So far, I've found it's not that hard to work.
Looks like the star ratings have gone, and that's probably good.
The speel cheeker will only be of any use if you already mis-spell in American, which I don't. I prefer to mis-spell in British. ;-) Slainte, RJ.
You know I have a feeling that comments about the old spell checker and search feature are the bulk of what got us into this migration. I never had a problem with the old search tool and thought of spell checking as a "nice to have" not a critical utility, hence my post in the previous thread about "if it ain't broke don't fix it". If I make particularly long post I type them in word, edit and spell check there, then copy and paste into the thread.
I seem to be adjusting to the new forum better than most (which surprises me) but I also haven't found any new capability here that I would rate better than a "nice to have" in terms of value. "Nice to haves" aren't usually enough to justify IT projects or even changes to IT projects. I suspect that when the users get used to how to work the new tool and the initial adjustments on Taunton's side are complete the sum total of the "nice to haves" will have some decent value.

Ahh, but rate each post as to the value it may have in the future and you can build your own customized online wood working reference library.
Steve
P.S. if you havent figured it out yet, you can simply double click over your name in any post that you've created and then setup you personal preferences. This includes getting back your old nick name without length restrictions etc.
Drop me in the middle of the Gobi desert and I'd feel equally as lost as I do now.
I'm reserving my overall judgment of the new forum, but there is one component I really don't like, and that's the little "rating" stars. What the heck is the purpose of rating supposed to be? I can, maybe, see rating an entire thread, but each person's posts? That sucks!

Total agreement here. I can't see how that's useful in a forum such as this. I say Nix it.
Best,
Seth
(Yeh, I'm waiting for the one -star rating for this post!)
I have discovered, in My Preferences, that you can set your preferences to ignore messages below a certain rating. I really don't see this as being very constructive. One forum I belonged to ages ago did allow you to "ignore" individual posters, and there were some members who got ignored by many, because their posts were vindictive and poorly stated.
But rating each post? -- a complete waste of resources, and inviting people to show their worst side if they happen to be feeling grouchy.
