Hi Everyone,
I recently established the Festool Owners Group on Yahoo. For a couple of years, I’ve been getting more and more experience with Festool tools, and I am very impressed with them. In this same period, I have noticed that a lot of other people feel the same way. There is already a group for Felder owners, and for owners of other tools, but none for Festool. So I decided to start a new group myself.
In just a few days, the group has grown rapidly, and already the discussions are taking off.
If you are interested in joining, go to this address:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FestoolOwnersGroup/
If you prefer, send me your e-mail and I can invite you.
Look forward to seeing you there.
Thanks,
Matthew

Matthew,
Can we participate without joining yahoo? Could we at least read the posts that are there?

Kit,
Sorry, but you have to join to read the files. Why don't you want to join? I'll even send you an invitation if you want.
Let me know.
I tried to sign up, but they refused my "nikkiwood" user name -- even though I have no interest in a yahoo email account.
nikkiwood,
I guess there is someone else with the user name nikkiwood! I know that can be annoying. You could also use your regular e-mail address or your first initial and last name as an ID.
By the way, Yahoo sets up an e-mail account for you automatically when you create an identity, but you don't have to use it.
I guess I am too much the grumpy curmudgeon.
I use the same username and password for all things related to woodworking, and if a particular user group won't accept it, I just don't participate. Your computer is supposed to remember all this, but sometimes mine doesn't (corrupted cookies?), and keeping a list is more effort than I care to invest.
That said, I do think the focus for high end quality tools will pass to the Japanese and Europeans over the next few years, if the recent sale of Milwaukee and Delta/PC play out the way I suspect they will.
If I am right, we will see more tools coming from Festool (and Metabo and Fein). And it will be interesting to see what, if anything, Makita and Hitachi have in mind for the stationary tool market.
Nikkiwood,
I agree with you on passwords and such. Back in the early days of the Internet, I kept lists of passwords and usernames, and it got to be rather cumbersome.
I also agree with you on the tool scenario. Until a couple of years ago, I mostly bought North American products. Then I ventured out and when I discovered the well-made German tools (like Festool) I was sold. Hence the idea for the group.
Well, I hope you can join the group.
Hey nikkiwood,
About Milwaukee & Delta/ Porter - Cable, I guess I might as well run out and buy what I can before all the dumbed down versions hit the shelves! Since I've already got a collection of Milwaukee, Dewalt, and PC I wonder how replacement parts are going to be? Junk likely!?
As for the European tools I've got a Bosch 1584VS barrel grip and I've got no grips! I've also used Bosch miter saws in the past. They are wonderful, looks like I'll be putting one on my wish list! Looks like those of us who want quality will be going overseas for it!
I also subscribe to the Japan Woodworker, mostly waterstones! But I might get some chisels sometime in the future!
Those daring young men in their flying machines!
