I know, it is Craftsman…but has anyone had any experience with this Sander? I did see it in person this weekend and was quite impressed. It is SUBSTANTIALLY more tool than the typical $100-$150 belt/disc sanders that seem to frequent the retail stores. Just wondering if anyone else has stumbled across this sander.

It does seem like a pretty good machine for the money. Personally I have never figured out what those belt/ disk sanders are for. They sand across the grain and the verticle belt is too narrow to position the work piece accurately. For example if you are trying to sand a three foot board it is hard to keep the edge squarely in contact with the belt. Ridgid makes a HORIZONTAL belt sander. That make a lot more sense to me.

I can't comment on the 6x9 but I had a Craftsman 4x6 given to me last year. The 4x6 is loud and vibrates like crazy. Just light pressure on a work piece will cut the power in half and you can easily stall the machine. I agree with Mudman in the fact that, the disc/belt combo doesn't have many applications for the work I do. Your work could be different. I'm sorry to say, that my long term experience with Craftsman tools and machines has not been good, so, I stay away from them, unless they are free.
