   Best source I've seen is http://www.homesteadfinishing.com.  It's Jeff Jewitt's site.  Only place I've seen where you can actually call the expert and talk to him personally.  I highly recommend it.

   Terry, thank you for your kind response.  I have Jeff's book on wood finishing, I am familiar with his expertise.  Funny, I was at the Bartley furniture factory, in Maryland, and stumbled into a lecture about finishing furniture using Bartley products.  They were recommending, and of course, selling Jeff's book.  

   By the way, do you have any experience with water base shellac?

   Unfortunately I don't.  I've thought about trying it, but haven't gone beyond the thinking stage.  Let me know how it works out if you try it.
