I have the opportunity to look at a Craftsman pedestal drill press this weekend. It is listed as a 1hp, 15″ with a 5/8″ chuck. I think it’s about 10 years old. I could call the owner and ask for the model number, but that amkes to much sense. There is one just like it on ebay but no other information. If anyone has any experience with this model, I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts. Here’s a link to the ebay page.
Here are a couple of photos from the CL page.

Strangely enough, I have that exact one, and might have even bought it at the same store. I was in Prattville at the time.
Thought? Its pretty basic. I've never upgraded b/c its been adequate and lightly used. Changing speeds a minor hassle, but if you want automatic, then you're talking a grand ish. I assume posting here you're drilling wood. If its metal, it doesn't really have enough juice for anything substantial.
If it still runs, the shaft isnt bent, the belts are still on, you can deal with the surface rust pretty readily. Visually, $150 seems a tad stiff, but then what are you going to get for that nowadays? Mine was 1998 and $399 at the time. Its probably a fair deal.

Thanks RW. Just the info I was looking for. Do you know the model number. I may have better luck finding a free manual before the weekend. Thanks
Sry I don't know any model number. Its not on the press. There's almost nothing to know about it. A couple of knobs loosen the motor mount so you can move it to change belts. The chuck has a #2MT. Thats about it.

Thanks RW. The less to know the better. Pardon my ignorance but what is a #2MT. Drill presses are a mystery to me.
ok, maybe I know. I've read about a "morse taper" but I don't exactly know what it is or how its different for other tapers. Am I on the right track?
Yes, #2 Morse Taper. Its just a size. A very common size. Its the shape of the tapered shank that connects the chuck to the rest of the machine. You'd only care to know it if that chuck (which looks a little rusty) and the corresponding shaft got replaced with something newer.Real trucks dont have sparkplugs
Besides the # 1 and # 2 Morse taper some drill press chucks use what is called a Jacobs taper , it is much shorter then the Morse type .
dusty , has many drill machines in the shed
