Hi The cabinet doors in my travel trailer are hinged at the top requiring that you hold the doors open to put something inside. Does anyone know a source for spring loaded lifts or air lifts ( similar to those on the back window of a pickup truck’s cap)? They would have to be small, the cabinet opening is only 7″ high by 20″ long. Thanks

You can get them at auto parts stores. You may have to experiment to find ones that have just the right amount of force.

Chriswall,
Don't know if the attached would work but it may be close to what your looking for ?
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=410
Rocklear (sp?) sells them in sets (need two per door) for about $35 or $40 (not cheap). I was looking at them last night, I want to do a simular detail over the top of my kitchen cabinets, for use as extra storage, but for the cost I may have to find another way of hinging them.
Still if you have cabinets already (and not many of them) you may find this to work for you. And as far as I know they do not discount for buy many of them at the same time (like they do with some other stuff).
Let me know if you find something cheaper.

I tried the toy box support, its way too strong and I would have to make a bracket for it to mount to. The other supports from Rockler are too expensive and only come in one size. I need one about 6" long (collasped) and 7.5" extended. I also tried the friction supports but there is no room behind the closed door for them to work. I haven't tried an auto store yet.
Have you thought of embedding rare earth magnets in the bottom rails of the doors and screwing steel plates to the ceiling?
Plan B: A 7" radius quarter circle of 3/8" plywood mounted on the door so as to just clear the inside wall of the cabinet would not interfere with the contents while closing. Drill a hole in cabinet wall near the front edge for a 1/4" dowel pin to hold open the door; hang dowel pin from a little chain so it won't get lost when not in use.
