Need help in making a Shopmade stringing
Hello All! I do hope someone out there that can help me. In issue 180 December 2005 page 103 of Fine Woodworking Steve Latta shows a shopmade stringing. In the lower right photo it shows Steve the stringing drawn through a thicknesser.
I want to know the specifications for making this unit.
Thanks Jack

Lie-Nielsen now sells a version of the one that Steve Latta uses:

Basically, it's just a scraper blade mounted next to a groove. You slide the blade back and forth slightly to adjust the resulting thickness of the workpiece.

Just to show an alternative, this is the tool used to size the hand sawn stringing at the Colonial Williamsburg Conference this year.

THANKS for your information, it sure helped a lot, I do have a 2007 catalogue but it is not listed in it. Looking at the picture you posted. Am I right to say that these blades are sharpened in some way and are adjustable back and forth.
Many thanks for your help Jack
Oh by the way is it possible to made it in the shop.
My name isn't Jack. ;-)
I believe the blades are sharpened straight across (a 90° bevel, as it were). And yes, I think you can slide the blades back and forth slightly to adjust the thickness, although I don't know how much adjustment range the Lie-Nielsen tool has.
It would be easy to make one of these; all you need is a blade. If you don't already have an appropriate piece of tool steel, you can get a blank from Lee Valley for less than $2.00; it has only one hole in it, but it wouldn't be difficult to add another one:

I thought he was being sarcastic, as in, "Thanks for all your help Jack" ;^)
A comma can go a long way towards clearing things up.
