I need to refinish a coffee table that nail polish remover was spilled on. The table is medium priced not expensive but worth the effort to save.
The top is veneer with inlaid design of different wood and shade.
Do I strip the finish or sand it off? If stripping, what is the best stripper to apply?
What is the best finish to reapply?
Thanks for any help

Richard;
You are in trouble,since you said it was inexpensive,it probably was mass produced and most likely has a catalyzed finish,you will not be able to strip it off with any strippers you can find in a home improvement or wood workers store.
A commercial stripper one with a much high amount of Methyl Chloride probably would work but it most likely would destroy/damage the veneer.I suppose you could try sanding it off,but that will take an unbelievable amount of work!
*Hi Richard, If nail polish remover removed the finish, it should be fairly stripable (poetic license in use). If it only damaged the finish then Michael might have a good point. Search the archives of FWW, I think that they ran an article in the past year or so about strippers, for furniture of course, and start there. If the remover did indeed disolve the finish, then perhaps a methanol/acetone/toluene (MAT) stripper will do the job. Of course there is also the possibleity of buying the economy size nail polish remover and using that to remove the finish. These are just some thoughts. Bob
*Richard; Get some "DADS" stripper- blue label not green(commercial). it'll strip anything.-FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!!
