i just bought a 9″ jointer the other day. it’s an older machine that is from the 60’s or maybe even the 50’s according to the guy i bought it from. the jointer is only 48″ long, which i thought was a bit strange for a machine this size, but then again i can make some extensions for it. i think it still has it’s original paint job, a standard machinery grey which doesn’t give me the slightest clue as to who made this machine. the only markings on the machine is the number 12 stamped into the right hand side of the end of each bed. it also has babbit bearings if that helps. there are no names casted into the machine, and no sign of any tags that were removed. does anyone have any idea who would have made this machine? thanks in advance BTW, the machine also came on a homemade base, so if the name was anywhere on the base i have no way of knowing. i’ve never heard of a 9″ jointer before, so hopefully that will narrow down the list.

Andrew,
Maybe you can post a picture? I suspect that it goes back further than the 50's, more likely back into the 20's since you say it has babbit bearings.

Hope it isn't a square head or one of those old round heads that take slotted 3/8" thick knife stock
no, it's a round head that takes 1/8 thick knives. since the cutterhead is easily removed i think i might modify it to use ball bearings, as i think the babbit ones are a little worn. i also just noticed the numbers 30-206 casted onto the adjustment knobs if that helps anyone.
dano, i'll try and get a picture of it soon to post.
