Gary,
I have a joint I cannot identify or figure out how to recreate. I own a 19th century vanity that was joined with scalloped edges and pins. Please see attached. I have never seen another joint like this and was wondering:
1. If you know what it is,
2. If you do, how to create it, and
3. Could you please let me know how to do it?
Thanks in advance!

Dear King,
That's a cove and pin joint. A 19th century oddity if I'm not mistaken. Maybe it was 20th century but a joint that never caught on. It's pretty but a pain to cut and not as strong as a dovetail joint.
There was an article back in the black and white days of FWW when they did an article on it. Search the archives for that one. My best guess on manufacturing this is a series of drilled holes with a Forstner bit, a corresponding cutting of tenons with a band saw and file, assembly and then the joint is drilled for dowel pins. It's work but pretty. Good luck. Gary
