Dick / fellow duck ,
Myrtle works fairly good and is no trouble as far as gluing and takes a finish beautifully . I just bid a job with Myrtle panels in Black Walnut frames . Regular Titebond glue worked fine .
I opted not to make the door frames / stile and rails and detailed parts of Myrtle because of the grain switch , I felt panels would be stable in a frame .
I also bid the same job out of Walnut frames and Mango veneer panels Mango being from the islands and really wild and dramatic , that is what the clients want .
regards dusty , maybe I should be called Rusty with this wet weather
I'm curently finishing my first project with Mytle wood, I made a small (20 inch by 24 inch) wall coat rack with a cubby hole shelf. It cut just fine but my jointer and edges for a glue up panel didn't get along very well (even after sharpening and resetting the blades) although it surfaced planed (with the grain) nicely in the planer. It sanded well, both flats and the curved edges with a oscalating drum sander and it took the finish fine....The grain really popped with just laquer, the wood has a mild but odd smell when cutting. No trouble with the glue ups, cutoffs did not want to break. Rod
