Does anyone know if these motising attachments that you buy for drill presses will fit an 8inch bench top model?

donnybongo,
I have only seen mortising attachments for specific drill presses. In other words, you need to find an attachment for your specific drill press....there arn't any for my drill press...
The one I have is adaptable to several different drill presses. There are basically three or four sets of ships to attach it to different diameters. I would think clearance might be an issue on a drill press that small.
Oh, and I would be happy to sell you my attachment, because I bought a dedicated mortiser. The attachments were just to much trouble to set-up.
You are right, clearance would be a big issue. Maybe it is time for me to buy a dedicated mortiser too. What kind did you buy?
I bought the Delta 14-651. I mainly bought it because of the cast iron table and the trunnion adjustment of the fence. The fence adjustment is my biggest complaint with the drill press attachment which is just to difficult to adjust precisely. Overall the machine was a little bit beefier than the Jet or other Delta model.
My Delta mortise attachment lists 8 specific drill press models that it works with, from 10 inches to 32 inches, plus all the Delta 15 inch presses, but no 8 inch drill presses.
My Delta attachment comes with three sets of "split ring bushings" for different models drill press, none of which fit a friend's Ridgid drill press. However he bought a Ridgid kit that came with four sets of rings, apparently the same kit, but with the extra ring to fit Ridgid.
I found that after the initial learning process, it now takes me less that 15 minutes to get set up to mortise on the drill press, and almost no time to change to a different mortise setting. Since the drill press plus mortise attachment cost less than a dedicated mortise machine, I feel that it was a good purchase. However (full disclosure, fine print) I will be getting a combination machine with mortiser later this year, so will be selling this kit.
