Never ceases to amaze me. I sent them an email around Midnight Sunday asking about an accessory for my Grizzly 1019Z (the model wasn’t listed in the various options in the catalog). By half-past Noon their time (9:30 my time, hadn’t even had my coffee yet!) I had an answer!
We have contacted the manufacturer and they informed us that you should use the #2 Bandsaw Duplicator (item # 47Z0502). However, they also noted that if your bandsaw has a bearing guide, it will not work.
How many times have people posted here about never getting an answer to an email question from a tool company or whatever? Wow.
Another kudo is to their web site and the ordering software. If you’ve never used their web site to place an order, you’re in for a treat. It is just the cat’s meow! I leave there being in love with technology, instead of wanting to toss the computer in the trash, LOL.

I once inquired about some iron door pulls that I had bought from LeeValley 2 years previously that had not yet been used and had a fine coating of rust. My question regarded removing the rust. They reminded me that they were made that way, but nevertheless offered to have me return them if I chose. Some day I will get back to that project and finish it.
I continue to order from LeeValley and am never disappointed. My current order is due to be delivered day after tomorrow.

Hey, Rob, she's not to worry -- my hubby and I are doing just fine, thank you. Gotta hand it to you -- your web site is by far the best commercial site I've ever visited.
Question re: the Veritas router table. We've been discussing it in another thread, and I just noticed that you recommend (in the catalog) using the insert rather than the steel table for a heavy router (>10lbs). I was kinda surprised, and one of the posters in that thread said he's had his heavy router in the LV table top for years and has no indication of sag. What's the scoop? I have a Freud, about 12#, mounted in mind and am wondering if I should add a couple of supports.
Still trying to find room in the budget for the fence -- splurged on BesseyK's for an early Christmas present, so it's bumped back yet again. ;-)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Hi Jamie -
Sorry it's taken a while to get to a reply (and I still have to read the "dog" thread!)...I just got home from a trip...
We've really had no issues with sag in the table over time. We have modelled it, and tested it, and feel quite comfortable with 10 (even 12!) pounds. We do have print some sort of limit - as we just don't know what people will do.... who know's, maybe Tim Allen will hang a V8 from it.... :)
Bottom line is - we'll stand behind it...give it a go, and if you bend it, we'll replace it!

Rob:
You and your organization have THE BEST ever customer service comitments to us, the people who buy tools, that I could ever imagine. Keep up the good work, I look forward to your catalogs, and your service that you provide. I have bought a bunch of stuff through you, and will continue to for as long as you are there. Please pass this along to th people, who do the grunt work.
Thanks much.

Just funnin' with you and forestgirl Rob. :>) I wholeheartedly agree with what she says. Besides, your wife has nothing to worry about when you are in places like Saskatoon?
Bob
I recently moved to a new home. In the process, the alignment pin for my Veritas router table top went missing. I e-mailed Lee Valley asking for the part number (not listed in the owners manual) so I could order a replacement. Instead, they sent me a new pin -- no charge.
And I ordered a certain item from them via internet on 25/09/2005 and it was at back door on 4/10/2005-from one end of the world to the other.
Now I decided to get that item because the principle of the thing looked good. I have not finished testing it yet, but so far all the warnings about chatter seem baseless.....And what's more the paperwork says if I don't like the item I send it back-with a choice of a refund or an exchange, plus no snivelling about shipping charges-now that's a company!
I too have had excellent experience with Lee Valley and the quality of their products. We will be in Ottawa this Friday to visit our son and LV is on the list!
If I could make one suggestion to them-their gift certificate system is ancient. I rec'd one, but the only way to redeem it is to write up a mail order and mail it in (the envelope with stamp routine). I guess I'm spoiled for web ordering! It probably has to do with security and counterfeit certificates.
It's a great place and I'm looking forward to visiting there this Friday!!
Bob
Hi Bob -
A quick wave of the hands - and your wish is granted!! :0 :)
Tomorrow we go live (at least, that's the plan) with our new gift certificates/declining balance cards...
Multi-currency, denominations, declining balance, physical or virtual cards, re-deemable over the internet, phone, fax, by mail or in the store...
Purchase through any channel - and redeem through any channel!!!
Been working on it for over a year.... all developed in-house too. It's not just our service folks who're good....!
Cheers -
Rob
(crossing his fingers on going live.... :) )
"It's not just our service folks who're good....!" Well, if your web designer is in-house, give him/her a HUGE pat on the back for me (I'd give a hug if I was there). The smoothest site ever, IMHO.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Hopefully you'll be poking your head back in here soon.
My favorite work pants, my "supplication" pants, the coolest bit of clothing I own (well next to my Lee Valley wide-brimmed floating hat) are my pair (second pair, actually) of Lee Valley Gardener's pants. I ain't no gardener, but those green pants are wonderful.
No longer in the catalog. No longer on the website. ??? Please...
Lee Valley has been around for quite a few years. Before email I wrote a letter regarding a couple of tool questions to Rob's Dad and former boss Leonard and had a personal letter back with answers in about 10 days.
When I finish building my new shop next spring I'll frame the letter and hang it - Leonard's a bit of a legend now.
Careful there folks. The reason Rob's wife reads these is she is in charge of customer service.
At Montanafest Rob told me that their customer service people are empowered to do what is necessary to satisfy the customer, without having to get approval first. Now that's a company that believes in customer service and their employees ability.
OK, HERE'S A COMPLAINT ABOUT LEE VALLEY!!! I just ordered and received $600+ worth of supplies, drawer slides. When my wife gets the bill, I'm in trouble! What can customer service do about that!!!????
Seriously, they're the best. That's why they get my money. In addition to outstanding customer service, they also have some of the best prices around. I had to order some 48" drawer slides for a large Arts & Crafts built in that I'm doing. Rockler was $238 for the pair, Lee Valley was $138 for the pair! And I had to have two pair! Now that's some savings. Alan & Lynette Mikkelsen, Mountain View Farm, est. 1934, Gardens & Fine Woodworking, St. Ignatius, MT
