Driving to Monterey this summer, wondering if anyone has recommendations for hardwood suppliers in the region I could visit? A quick Google did not turn anything up.
Thanks,
Dan

In San Jose there is a place called Global Wood source they have website that shows a lot of their wood. I also think there is a place in Gilroy CA that has a lot of claro walnut. They advertise in FWW. Anyway neither is inexpensive but they have nice wood. Have fun in Monterey.

We are talking California, right? Not Monterrey, Mexico?
There's Jackel Lumber, in Watsonville -- http://www.jackelenterprises.com/ It is good for the Monterey area, but there are better places in the SF Bay area.
If you're driving to Monterey, which direction are you getting there from?
Thanks guys,I'll be going south on I5, then I figured I'd turn down I80 at Sacramento, go thru Oakland onto the 880, then onto 17 at Los Gatos. Thank goodness for Google Maps!Thought I might visit Macbeath and Woods Unlimited on the way down, but I'll just be passing through there, whereas I'll be in Monterey a couple days and might have time to do some lumber exploring!Dan
Daninvan,
Why? In a place known for a solitary tree out on the rocks of the Pacific would you go there to buy wood? Simply to say that you paid 27 prices for a piece of wood? The Carmel area is a wonderful tourist destination, it's not known to be the hotbed of logging. Wood idigenous to the area are available many other places for a far more modest price.
Actually Frenchy, I was hoping to pay 28 times the price. That should really impress all y'all.Dan!
Hi Dan,
I second Jackel Enterprises. They usually have quite a selection.
While you're in Monterey you've got to see 17 mile drive and Point Lobos. Really spectacular stuff. I was born and raised in Santa Cruz and visited Monterey and Carmel often. Never grew tired of it. Have fun.
