I just got an Oneida and want to connect to a dust hood for the miter saw. The problem is I can’t find one that looks like it would work. Just putting an 1 1/2″ hose in the port will not catch all the dust. Can’t find any hoods on the market that look like they could catch dust no matter the angle of the saw. I’m sure this is not the first time this question has been asked but ” Does anyone know of an off the shelf solution or plans of a really good dust hood for a compound 12″ sliding miter saw?”

I had the same problem at Christmas time when I got my slider. I went to Lowe's and got one of those cellar window guards. The kind that are half round and are clear plastic. It wasn't high enough so I mounted it on 8'' flashing, then on a apices of plywood. In front of the saw under the plywood I connected my 4'' hose to a funnel shaped opening and to the outlet on the saw. The circumference of the hood is the same as the travel of the saw. Good luck
Thanks...I'm gona build something similar in sheet metal. If it works real good maybe I'll become rich............prob not.
I built my own for my SCMS.
I just built a box out of 2 x 2 lumber and luan board for mine. The box is big enough so that the saw can be positioned in all of its range. The dust hose is in the top of the box. [If your dust hose can be mounted in the bottom of the box it would work better. My main hose runs along the ceiling.]
My box has a sliding door on each side of the blade that I close as much as possible for each cut. Just straight 90* cuts only needs the doors open about 4" to allow the saw through.
My 1100 system takes all the fine airborn dust in about every cut I make. The compound mitered cuts requires the doors to be opened pretty wide which makes the DC not quite as effective but it still takes most of the fine dust.
I still end up with some of the heavier sawdust inside the box which I sweep out every couple weeks with the shop vac. That is why I mentioned above that a bottom mounted hose would be more effective cause then you could just turn on the DC and sweep it down the shute.

I kept the 7" diameter from the Oneida right to the dust hood. Works well.

Peter
