I have a MM16 and really like it.
Tony,
Is the MM your first BS or was it an upgrade for you? What was your previous BS? If you do not mind me asking
It was my first one I found the Delta's too small and light weight. The new model of the MM16 now has an even larger resaw capacity. the one I have is 12 1/2"
What type of blades do you use? And have you considered investing in a carbide tipped blade?
I have two of the Lennox 1" carbide blades for resawing and I also have the standard plane Jane carbon steel blades for regular sawing.
Can we go back to the MM16 for just a minute, how close do you set the back roller behind the blade both above the table and under?
Between 1/8" and 1/4"
Unless I'm misunderstanding the previous post, I think 1/8" to 1/4" is much too far. I can't recall where I learned this (maybe the Mark Duginski (sp?) dvd on setting up tools), but I've always set the blade guides (both sides and back) so that a sheet of paper can slip between the guide and the blade, but just barely. So, how far? A sheet of paper far.
Thanks, I'm on coarse setting up my MM.
When it comes to blades do you prefure the Lenox or the Timber Wolf
I have experience only with the Lenox blades. I haven't tried anything else because I've been very pleased with them.
House,
Have you upgraded your BS dust collection? For example, drilling a whole 2" or 4" whole to attach another hose hoping to increase dust extraction? Or close in the space around the blade (under neither the table) to increase/maximize dust collection?
I also have the MM16 and think it's great (it's also the older model--still a tank). I tried Timberwolf blades but didn't like them on the MM. I stick with the Lennox carbide ones. The Timberwolf blades are a low tension blade, but the saw is one where it's designed to really crank up to 25-30,000 psi tension--double what a Delta or clone can give. So you are putting on a blade which is meant to work contrary to how the saw works. You don't put a crappy blade on a tablesaw, why would anyone do the same for an equally expensive bandsaw?I set my bottom guide as high as possible, and set everything to a folded dollar bill distance. The thrust bearing too.

Yes, I read that somewhere, too.

Following the path of least resistance makes rivers and men crooked.
I have a MM20. I'd buy this machine all over again.
what type of resaw blade do you use?
1" Lennox trimaster and 3/8" 3 and 4 tpi. This saw can handle a 1/4" or 3/16" but it's not ideal.
Have you done anything to you MM to improve dust collection?
I have a MM20 which is about 3 years old now. I am very happy with it. I use Lennox carbide blades and a starrett tension meter. I did try timberwolf blades once but was not happy (probably since as someone noted they are designed for lower tension). I have pushed a lot of dense wood through this saw and never had a problem (bubinga, ebony, wenge, mahog...) If they still exist, you might
contact Iturra designs for a catalog. An interesting history of the rise
and fall of delta is detailed in the catalog.
All right someone who has a MM20... What length do you order the blades in when the range is 166 1/16" and 169 1/4, the size blade 1" or 3/4" for re-sawing, when you are getting ready to drop $300. Yes, my first purchase of a carb. BS blade
Thanks - Scott
I have always used a 168" long and 1" wide carbide blade for
my resawing with the MM20.
ditto, 168". I have a second trimaster that developed a bump in it, so I had 1" taken out and it works fine.
thanks, what was my luck number also, gives some flexibility in case the weld breaks and needs to be rewelded. Do you know what the psi is on the tensioning on the mm20? The Lenox blade will take 30,000 psi
I tension my 1" lennox carbides to 27500.
thanks
