Some here may recall a recent queries on my Makita 2030. Now for a new one: the fence on the jointer is skewed so that the back side of the fence is farther to the right side of the bed than the front side of the fence is to the right side of the bed.
The fence does stand square to the bed, however.
Is this normal or are the connectors damaged?
It seems to be normal as it works to “shear” wood as opposed to chip it off.
Thanks.

I have no idea about a Makita 2030.. BUT it works to "shear" wood makes sense to me.. How I surface plane MY stufff! Maybe E-Mail then and ask!
I can't say whether it is normal or not for that particular model, but I've seen the same thing with other jointers. Not way off, of course, but a few degrees out.

The fence on the 2030 I own is parallel to the edges of the jointer table. I can skew it a bit, due to play in the connecting rod mechanism that attaches it to the base of the unit. But I seriously doubt it was designed to do that. Remember, this is a machine that was built in the 1970's...
It's possible that something has been bent on your fence, either on purpose or by accident. In either case, it shouldn't be too difficult to straighten it out.
