Making a wooden lathe bed extension
I haven’t spent any time at all on my lathe since I started building a kitchen ful of cabinets several months ago, so I’m anxious to start turning again, as evident by my last three lathe questions under the “Turning & Carving section. Here’s my latest, and thanks for your advice on the others:
Earlier this year (or maybe last year) there was an article in FWW by someone who constructed a lathe bed extension out of hard maple, increasing his spindle turning capacity from 24″ to 48″ or so. I need an extension on my lathe also, and since I will use it only infrequently, have decided to make it myself, from wood. I know it is not a very complicated procedure, but there were a couple of pointers in this article about the connection that I would like to review before starting. Now I can’t find the article, and a search under the Lathe section of the Magazine Index hasn’t come up with it. Can anyone remind me of the issue number?
Thanks, as always, Gary
