I know the subject has been hacked over a hundred times. I’ve been trying to use the search engine to find the old threads but nothing seems to come up. What am I doing wrong?

I think you may be referring to a "crosscut sled" or "crosscut box?"

If the above article is right, you can also serch the "crosscut box/sled" terms in knots or FWW generally for more.
I think it was BruceS that provided an incredibly detailed method of crosscut sled construction. I copied and pasted it into a document for reference.
I have taken the liberty of attaching it for you so as to not require Bruce to have to type it all in again. :-) Hope you don't mind Bruce.

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
Thanks.
If you're going to buy the slides rather than milling wooden ones, check out the kit that Highland Hardware sell. It has phenolic slides and a lexan blade cover/guard.
