I’m looking to build a mahogany study. Any advice as to the most striking way to finish mahogany cabinets?

For final sanding. "Wet" sand with boiled linseed oil, and then apply your favorite varnish over it. Get yourself a copy of "Brightwork" by, ummmm, Rebecca Wittman (or something very close to that) for the details. Luscious.
Shellac will give mahogany a beautiful finish. Large areas can be sprayed easily as well.
