I am building a wood storage rack in my shop. I am using ordinary hardware store 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 lumber (pine I think). I want to put some kind of finish on the components before I assemble the rack. My primary concern is to prevent warping due to absorption of water vapor, especially thru the end grain. Finished appearance is not a major concern. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Mariner1

I really don't see that you'll need any finish at all. If they are lumber racks, the weight of the wood should be enough to help keep things in line.
If you are worried about end grain, a little primer or paint of some sort would do the trick.
