Hello everyone,
Hope everyone is enjoying this great weekend! (at least here on the east coast)
I am buying a new spray gun, my compressor in the shop is big enough to deliver all the air the gun needs 13.5 cfm’s @ 29 psi The manufacturer C.A.T. also offers this exact gun in a “low cfm” gun will the finish atomization be different ? will the finish quality be better or worse ?? The gun that takes 13.5 cfm’s will be all but impossible to operate on the job sight. I have done this, but not often. The “low cfm” gun will run on just about any compressor.
Thank you,
John

With a C.A.T. gun you should see little or no difference in atomization between their HVLP and LVLP (low volume low pressure) guns.
What you will notice is that the LVLP gun feels more like a conventional (non-hvlp) gun with a stronger back pressure when you pull the trigger. The material savings are comparable between HVLP and LVLP and as you mentioned the gun will spray on the job site with a much smaller compressor.

Hey Lee,
Thanks for the reply ... I actually like that feel of a conventional gun. I have heard that the lower cfm's don't give as good a finish. Do you by chance own a C.A.T. gun ?
John
I use a C.A.T. touch up gun at work to spray stains and glazes. It is a very well thought out and engineered piece of equipment. I don't own any other CAT equipment presently but over the years I have used or owned CAT, Devilbiss, Binks. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those brands.
I have used a conventional for so long that I like the feel as well. My next gun will probably be this one:

Hey everyone,
Well after some talking to the great guys at C.A.T. I find out that they are offering a special this month one gun 3 needle sets, and two air caps, high and low cfm's, problem solved!
Thanks for all your posts,
John

I have got the same HVLP gun that you are looking at with the 3 nozzles, needles, everything. The finish that is produced is excellent. I have been using Mohawk brand lacquer and sanding sealer. Even though, prior to getting the CAT Spraygun, my experience with spraying was very minimal, the finish was beautiful on several different projects. A good spray gun can make a poor operator (myself) look real good. It is an excellent gun. At 29 max psi inlet pressure, the finish is perfect and very easy to accomplish. C.A.Technologies has an excellent product. The compressor I am using is from Lowes. It has a 60 gallon tank and 3 HP motor. The price is about $400.00 for the compressor. I don't know that a smaller tank would work. You may spend alot of time waiting for it to refill with air. I wonder if a larger portable compressor with a second air storage tank would work away from the shop.
HOWEVER, as for Spray Gun World / Tool Paradise, It took a solid month to get my order. Just like all of the rest have complained, they are very hard to get in touch with, most e-mail responses are slow and are automatic ( We are sorry, your order is on back order and expected to ship in 10 days). I got 3 of these. Their price cannot be beat for the set like you are looking at. I did try to shop elsewhere. but the prices were substantially higher.
C.A.Tech. has an excellent product. I wish they would sell direct, but, I don't think they do.

Thank you all,
I was pretty sure about my gun choice. But I blew it on the distributor. The awesome folks at C.A.T. are making spay gun world refund my money and they will charge my card and send it direct. Tool paradise/spray gun world at this time should be avoided!
thanks again everyone,
John
jpat,
That is good news. C.A.Technologies is an excellent company that obviously takes customer service serious. You will not be disappointed with the spray gun.
Happy spraying ( wear a respirator),

Lee,
Please do not buy anything from spray gun world or tool paradise at least until further notice. On 4-29-09 I ordered and paid for my C.A.T. spray gun and have gotten nothing but the run around !! I have sent them countless emails have left countless messages requesting shipping and tracking info. Two days ago I got an email asking me to refresh their memory as to what it was I ordered, I have been including order numbers, and phone numbers with all my correspondence. I have just opened a dispute with PayPal
Thanks,
John
John,
I'm very sorry to hear about that and I'm even more sorry that I recommended them to you in the first place. I hope you get things resolved quickly.
Lee
Lee,
No no, don't be sorry I have been looking at them long before i made my original post ... But thanks I'll keep you posted hopefully it is a glitch in their system.
John
Let's hope so. I heard mention in another forum about SprayGun World that they are basically a storefront, with no inventory. That's why the prices are so low. I'm not sure if that is true, I seemed to get my stuff in a timely manner but never looked to see if it was drop shipped from the manufacturer.
You may be getting the run around because they don't want to come out and say "We don't know what happened, CAT must have lost your order" or "We don't know why CAT didn't ship your order yet". You get the idea.
Hopefully you will get your stuff soon.

Hey Lee,
So from what i am understanding you have purchased from them before ? I am ok with the store front thing but I would like some info, some sort of response, anything indicating they just didn't take my cash and lock the doors !
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
John
Hi John,
Yes I have ordered from them before. I make a point not to recommend a business or product here on the forum without having some first hand knowledge. I won't recommend on a " I heard it does/will/etc......"
Good luck. Sounds like there are some other dissatisfied customers out there.

i ordered a spray gun and misc. other items from spray gun world. i did not receive my items after two weeks although they charged my credit card. i called and e mailed them over 15 times with no response. i finally got ahold of some one and they told me my stuff was back ordered.i waited another week and again phoned and e mailed many many times with no response. finally a read on the internet people were having the same problem as me. so i called them and told them i was going to file a fraud claim with my credit card co. so they told me my stuff just shipped out. funny thing is they are located in california but my spray gun was shipped from aom asturo in pa only about 100 miles from my house. when i got my order it was missing some items so i called them constantly till i got ahold of someone and told them again i would file a fraud claim with my card co. and they sent my items wich came from cal. this time . i under stand spray gun world is in financial trouble so be ware from the time i ordered till i got all my stuff was over a month nicko

I'm using an Asturo gun that draws 7 cfm at 21 psi. Not familiar with C.A.T., but the good news is that there are a lot of guns that work in that air range.
