Does anyone out there experience the same thing I endure frequently.
After typing a long post and checking my spelling and checking for the right words to use to make a point, and when I finally post it, I receive a pop up notice that I’m now offline and would you like to get back on line ?
Of course I clicked to get back on, but my whole post is then gone to the ether and I’m so mad that I throw up my hands in disgust and curse out Prospero. This invariably wakes my wife and makes her mad too. (Tho,not at Prospero) Stein

Stein,
I used to have that problem occasionally but since I upgraded my browser to IE6. It hasn't happened. In fact, once I log on it doesn't log me out until I close all my browser windows.
Are you on dial up or DSL?
Len
Len, Sorry to say "I'm on dial up. I'm trying to get my wife to
spring for Broadband but she hasn't sprung yet.Our local Cable offers a package that includes phone/cable TV and internet access for a little more than we pay now for phone and cable.
I offered to cancel a few subscriptions to magazines to absorb the difference. Stein.

I've had difficulty with posts also. Especially attaching pics as forrest girl can attest too.
Just keep trying and you'll get through it. That's the best advice I can give you.
Long posts I'll compose in MS Word and then copy and paste to the forum. I hate losing work too.

Thanx LR, I believe I'll follow your advice and Send it as an attachment. Trouble is, I can't get the hang of it with Knots Forum. No problem with eMail though. Stein
Steinmetz, you don't have to attach it.
Just type it in a document, then select all of the text, right click to "Copy"
Then go to post it and where you would normally type, right click "paste" and it should magically appear!
Mikki, Thanx, I'll try that Stein.
I think you need a trophy wife....lol
Stein, this definitely isn't a Propspero problem. A couple of possibilities I can think of:
I use IE 5.x at home and IE6.x at work. They both will leave me connected just about forever, so there's no need to specifically upgrade to 6.x to solve the problem.
A precaution I use when finishing a long post, and you could use it each time to save time and labor: After you finish composing and checking your post, do Control+A (to highlight all your text) and then Control+C (to copy your post to the clipboard). Then, if something goes wrong when you click Post, you'll have your composition still saved. You would just get back to the composition window and either do Control+V (paste) or right-click and select paste. Again, no need to open a new program to do this.
Let us know what operating system you're using (Win98 for instance) and which browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape), maybe we can help.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
You're right Gurl. The internet connection DOES disconnect in less time than I need to complete a 'rant' I found it happening on other forums I subscribe to. I have Win98 and msn8 for a browser. Use to have a dog with that name. Oh! no, It was Bowser. As to IE, I keep having trouble opening attachments using them for my default
I'll Copy and paste and then post as an attachment.
By the way, i tried to send you an attachment through knots but no dice. ED (Stein)
My guess is that your dial up connection is set to hang up after a period of time with no activity. No actvity is defined as a communications request from your computer to the internet, not keyboard activity. Check your dial-up monitor in your control panel and make sure the time before it hangs up is longer than the time you take to think about and compose an e-mail.
BTW I have a phone line dedicated to the internet. It costs me $16.00 per month and I am ALWAYS connected. I would spring for DSL or cable but neither is available where I live. I connected to the internet two years ago when we moved here and have been connected ever since.
