Looking for info on bandsaw blade speed
I am looking for information on Bandsaw blade speed. I picked up a Magna (shopsmith) bandsaw with a stand but it has a second hand motor. I found a couple of reference where it says your blade speed can vary from 500 to 2500 feet per min – quite a range. I have a few books that cover bandsaw tecniques, lots of information on blade types, nothing about blade speed. Google did not seem to help either. Any good reference would be appreciated.

For general woodworking blade speed isn't that critical, a speed of 2,000 SFPM, give or take a quite a bit, will work just fine. Higher speeds are reported to give a nicer finish for resawing, but probably at the risk of shorter blade life and greater wear and tear on the machine.
