Mee, too.
For me, however, it started behaving this way a month or so back. The main page keeps me logged in, though.
Hi Folks,
I've checked with our web development team and there haven't been any changes to the settings on our end. Try checking your internet browser settings, something may have been altered in there that's causing this.
-Lisa
knots is the only one that has this problem
it used to be intermitten , but now it is constant. I have seen others mention it in the past
thks for looking at it
ron
Web Development Team?? You have to be delusional!!
Come on Lisa, there is no 'web development team' and you know it. We all know it. Now they have sent you on the fool's errand of dealing with this group.
I challenge you to demonstrate the efforts of this team by making any one improvement. Seriously. Or just name one in the last 2 years.
I'm waiting.
David R Sochar. Member here for over 7 years, charter subscriber to Fine Woodworking, the magazine.
Uh, David . . .
You're being a little tough on the "new kid" aren't you? While there are many implementation and maintenance issues with Knots, none of these are of Lisa's making. She's just trying to do her thing as the new contact person.
Yes, but...
Ralph, yes, you are right, I was a bit rough on the new kid.
But, we all know there is no 'web development team' ands so does she. I certainly mean no disrespect to her, as I assume she is an earnest professional doing the best she can. But her employer is perhaps disrespecting her by putting her in this position. I mean, what are they trying to tell her?
But my challenge stands: Show me one improvement in the past 2 years.
Or make one improvement in the next 30 days. Select from: login problems, uncontrolled spam blocking of member messages, or spam showing up on the site, and never being deleted.
My son is a web designer for several large corps, and he can login and administer his clients from anywhere in the world, 24/7. If any of his people have a problem it is resolved almost immediately with a coalition of forces that pull together immediatley and identify and resolve problems - I have seen it happen. He says what is going on here- Knots - is obvious.
Assuming this post gets thru.....
I am posting this for the same reason many of the old Knotheads are still visitng here - some faint hope of reclaiming what was a great resource. I know that the current 'web development team' has nothing to do with the old Knots or any appreciation for what was lost, so indeed, why do I try?
Servers vs. Clients
Thanks for checking, Lisa.
To my understanding, however, this is a host (server) issue, not a browser (client) problem. If it were a browser issue, we'd be logged off on the main page, as well.
I cleared all of my FWW cookies last night, and then logged back into Knots (and the main page). Both logins survived the night. Thus, I suspect there is something amiss with how cookies are being interpreted on the server.
mine hasn't missed a beat
since Lisa said that there wasn't a problem on their end. haven't touched my computer. I keep trying it to see whether I have to log in or not; haven't had to.
ron
That makes sense, Ron
Since the issue appears to be cookie related, not everyone would be affected in the same way, since their cookies would likely have been set at different times with different values.
If/when it strikes you, too, the work-around appears to be to clear all your FWW cookies.
Follow-up
Well, after clearing my cookies the other day, I've had mixed results. Although that appeared to solve the problem, today I had to log in again. But, the main page login went away, too, so maybe they just rebooted things. I'm waiting for some magic to accompany the mystery.
follow-up to the follow-up
my bliss didn't last long either. back to login again
ron
Further follow-up
No joy. Clearing cookies was not a long-term solution.
It's always been that way for me, the site hardly ever remembers me. I have to do the log in probably 3/4 of the time, always have. This is the only site that I have that problem with, it's also the slowest site I visit with any regularity.
it is not slow
it is just about at dead stop
ron
Hmmmmmm
It's interesting that you have always been faced with logging in for each visit, while others have enjoyed at least some period of remaining logged in. The "tech team" must have installed the moon-phase and stellar-alignment modules to control software behavior. ;-)
Say What ?
There's a Tech Team ? and their objective is ?
SA
Tech Team
Lisa Morgan, our new contact person for Knots problems, made reference to the "tech team" in an earlier post. I was being a little sarcastic, since I suspect it is just one individual tasked with handling the technical work associated with the Taunton sites and forums. I can't speak to his or her objectives, since the forum software functions so poorly, and the so-called spam filter doesn't work as intended. A conspiracy theorist, however, might suspect that the objective is to kill Knots, so it can be dropped entirely.
Conspiracy ?
Hope that theory is wrong. I know you're kidding ! I remember a while back Steve - a good and knowledgeable friend of this site mentioned that they are possibly in financial difficulties; ..... and I hope that isn't the problem either. Hopefully the FWW site and magazine does survive, grow, and develop interested craftsman to carry on, and isn't overcome by failure to manage funds - KILLING KNOTS would badly hurt the magazine - don't you think ?

Survival - Knots Island
Although I'm not a fan of the TV show, it seemed appropriate for the post title.
Yes, I was joking about the conspiracy theory. I, too, hope that FWW makes it through the bad economy, and continues to grow. FWW has the highest production standards of any of the woodworking magazines, so it would be a shame to see it fail. Maintaining those production standards, however, is expensive, and puts extra financial pressure on the magazine that others might not feel. Before retiring, I was the editor of a tech magazine that specialized in high-end systems and storage. Thus, I have some sense of what they are going through.
I also see Knots as an important element in the FWW market presence. Knots adds a personal element to the exchange of woodworking information between subscribers that the blogs on the main site can't provide. Unfortunately, the manner in which the software was implemented has driven away many of the contributing experts, and discourages newcomers when their posts get trapped by the anti-spam filter.
Survivor
The craziest thing is that no matter what the economy is doing, what chores are in front of me, anytime - day or nite - I can come here and see what others of my breed are saying - maybe contribute - definitly learn something. No one with any sense would harm this site if they cherish growth in their company. Woodworkers may come from the trades, retired from the trades, artisans, hobbyists, finishers, etc. A large base of participants - why would you choose not to work at improving this site - it's beyond reasoning. Haven't they figured out the folks here spend a lot of money on woodworking essentials, magazines, ? In my view this site is too important not to care for -
SA
Care
Amen, brother. ;-)
Hi I've recently purchased the 1975 to 2020 Archive with a BONUS 1-year online access to the archive. Plus, online access to The Complete Illustrated Guide to Woodworking. I have searched for hours to find the online material with no luck. Anyone know and can post a link to the Guide and/or Archive?
At the top of this page (or any FWW website page) is a "members" tab. Click on this to be taken to the digital libraries.
You need to be logged in and to have your full membership status established to get at all the content.

What is “knots”? Have I been missing something as a longtime member?
Agree!
